Naomi finished off her drink when she felt a hand on her hip and then sensed the large figure behind her.

“Whatever the lady is drinking, and two bourbons on the rocks.” She glanced up and saw Brendon then she saw Cody as her sister Olivia moved to the side as she said hello to them.

Naomi felt her heart racing. “A nice surprise seeing you here, Naomi,” he said and caressed her hip.

“What are you doing here?” she asked and he squinted. “I mean, is this a place you like to hang out at?” she asked and then Cody stepped closer. He looked her over.

“We had business earlier. You look incredible, but there’s one thing wrong,” he said to her and she gave him an inquisitive look.

“What’s that?”

“You shouldn’t be here alone and unprotected,” he said, shocking her.

“Uhm, really?” She turned away and noticed her sisters giving her nods and indicating for her to be nice and they talked to a few guys. She noticed one of them was a guy she saw frequent the store front and Naomi’s shop and if she weren’t mistaken he was in SWAT. The other guy talking to Arianna she didn’t recognize at all.

“Here,” Cody said and passed her the martini.

“Thank you,” she said and then felt like she needed to address their comment.

“Listen, I’m sure your brothers talked to you about the phone call,” she said as Cody stared into her eyes and Brendon kept her close. She couldn’t help but to lean back against him but then she pulled forward. He gave her hip a squeeze. This was too much. She felt like she needed to down this martini but then her head wouldn’t be clear.

“As I was saying.”

“We know about the phone call,” Brendon said to her and she looked up at him. She was between the two of them.

“Then you know it wasn’t a big deal and that I’m a quite capable of taking care of myself.”

“That’s not really an option and it isn’t necessary. You have us and you have the local Sheriff and the town members. It’s how things are done,” Brendon said, and she swallowed hard and took a sip of her martini as she looked at their dress pants and button down shirts they wore. Possibly business attire.

“What kind of business were you doing here?” she asked.

“Our friends own the place. We buy and sell businesses and companies or office buildings when the opportunity presents itself,” Cody said and she tightened up. She gulped and immediately thought about Bergosta. About how he flirted, made her trust him and then he pounced.

“I’m not interested in selling,” she said and went to move.

“What?” Cody asked.

Brendon slid his arm around her waist and whispered into her ear, kissing her neck.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about but we aren’t interested in buying your place.” She tightened up and Cody pressed closer too.

“Why do you look so scared and untrusting right now?” he asked her.

“You don’t scare me.”
